motherworld: a choreopoetic experience

Premiered November 2022 at Northstar Church of the Arts in Durham, NC

An adaptation of Destiny Hemphill's since published manuscript, motherworld: a devotional for the alter-life, five seekers find themselves drawn to a portal to a new world. Along their journey they must shed, peel, grow, transmute and transform to become the world that they need. This piece is an invitation and invocation, inviting us all to manifest a motherworld.

Elusive Truths

November 12-20, 2021 in a church, an art gallery and a coffee shop in Toronto, Canada

Elusive Truths is an arrival in time, an intersection of questions, and an invitation towards radical honesty that aims to bridge the space between David Norsworthy, Monèt Noelle Marshall and those who come to witness.

Live musical/sound offerings by Omar David Rivero, also known as Driftnote, will add un-languageable truths to the space between all of us. Performance interventions by Mairi Greig or Maria Isabel Salgado will occasionally disrupt our echo chambers as the event unfolds.

The performance is interactive and participatory. Audience members are welcome to opt-in to the extent of their curiosity and delight.

Roles: Co-creator and Performer

raissoneur

Premiere May 6 & 7, 2022 at Underground Theatre at Wayne State University

Raissoneur (pronounced rez-uh-nur): a character in a play, novel, or the like who voices the central theme, philosophy, or point of view of the work.

Featuring a cast of 8 Black women playing various ages, races and genders, Raissoneur starts with Robyn, a Black actor who is just trying to do her show but is interrupted by Professor who tells her that she is the raissoneur. Before she can tear into him, out comes Mama, Sunshyne, Diva, Big Black and Kid, none of whom she was expecting or were in her version of the script. But then Robyn disappears and they must find her, they find themselves in the process.

This is a play within a play, a whodunit and a performance piece rolled into one. But ultimately it's a story of finding our parts and making them whole.
